Intro to Self-Lymph Massage Class

Who is Self-Lymph Massage for? Why do it?

Self-Lymph Massage - No detox reaction expected. See video above and/or blog post HERE for more info

The Lymph (Lymphatic) System is such an important part of our body.  Our body is always cleaning up things from our world, as well as doing the regular break down of tissue to be replaced with new tissue. The lymphatic system is constantly working!  We want to support it, help it out; and that’s what we are going to do. We want our lymph system moving and active, not stagnant, so it produces life and health. It really is a privilege to get to support our body, and help such an amazing system of our body, unload it, and do some of the work for it. Did you know that research shows that lymphatic massage doesn't just move lymph fluid and decrease swelling and inflammation, it has been shown to change the lymphatic vessels, as well as the vein health. To actually change the health of the tissue of these systems, and increase their diameter. So lymphatic massage has lasting changes, that continue to improve the health of your lymphatic and vascular system after you are done!

Are you experiencing brain fog, fatigue, chronic pain, allergies, reactions, muscle soreness, or any chronic / repetitive symptoms?  You would benefit from self-lymph massage.  A healthy, moving lymphatic system is amazing in supporting the whole body!

Join us to rejuvenate your fascial system, and whole body, and to support your metabolic system, and reduce pain, as well as improve your skin, vascular and lymphatic health, and your entire immune system.

The water based fluid in the lymphatic system is called lymphatic or lymph fluid, and it is full of white blood cells, and other immune function pieces, proteins, digestive fats and waste particles that our system is cleaning up.  Our goal in self-lymph massage is to get this fluid moving, and/or keep it moving, to positively affect our health.  It is great for all people, whether you are looking to maintain great health, or are at the very beginning of a healing journey.

Self-Lymph Massage (Self-Lymphatic Massage) is a great addition to support your body’s health in general, and support your immune system, and cardiovascular system and  to assist in your healing journey.  The class itself is an experiential class, where I will guide you through self-lymph massage of the body.  I will include some explanations of what and why we are doing what we are doing.  And you get to follow along and perform self-lymph massage on yourself.  The technique is very calming and soothing, and supportive of the parasympathetic state of the autonomic nervous system, (rest and digest, ventral-vagal state, and homeostasis).  Being in this state of the autonomic nervous system supports our immune system as well.

Janet has her Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and she is a Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist. She has years of experience using manual lymphatic drainage as a treatment hands on, on her orthopedic clients. She started teaching self-lymphatic massage to people individually online sometime near the end of 2021, and then realized she could help more people by teaching in a group in the spring of 2022.

The lymphatic system is so amazing.  It supports the cardiovascular system by picking up the fluid that is leaked out of the cardiovascular system, and any cell in our body, and keeping it moving, while filtering it, and transporting what the immune system needs, and dumping it back into the cardiovascular system after going through the whole body.  The system is right under the skin, so we can so easily affect it.  For me, and so many others, it has been the best practice to learn be gentle, caring, loving, and supportive to my body.  Specifically because we are doing this ourselves (rather than having a practitioner work on us), we are learning that gentle, non-judgemental care, that is useful for our whole life.  Self-lymph massage teaches us consistent, gentle care of our body, that is a life-long skill.  I am so grateful for this practice, it has truly changed my life.  For some, they are in a fix-it mentality, believing the body is broken, and that it demands care now, but then may be neglectful later.  For others, there is demanding the body perform, or over-vigilant fearful care.  In our self-lymph massages classes you learn the life-long skill of gentle care instead.

At all times please respect your body and do what feels best to you regardless of what we are doing in class. Stay in your window of tolerance. Everyone is welcome. We are learning to be kind and act lovingly to our body, so if that means you skip something, that’s a win you celebrate.   In the Align Membership, you get unlimited live classes, unlimited streaming of some full length and shorter classes, and body area specific self-lymph massage sessions, plus other awesome resources to support your amazing body! The body area specific self-lymph massage, the exercises, and so much more is exclusive to the Align Membership. Check out Align Membership options HERE

Self-Lymph massage is ideally done directly on the skin, so if that’s an option, please do that (off camera). You can always cover yourself with a blanket to stay warm, or wear baggy clothes that you can reach under. Doing it over your clothes is also very effective, (I will be doing it over my clothes).  I recommend wearing clothes without a lot of seams, buttons and zippers if you go that route so that you don’t run into them.

Class is on Zoom, and for class I will log on up to 5 minutes early. I will start the class usually about a minute after the start of the hour.  Feel free to come and go and be on or off video. If you haven’t already, please download the free zoom app on your device so you can log on easily! And please have your name displayed (first name and initial is fine, or some way to identify you)

Your participation on zoom in this class constitutes consent to receive instructions by Janet Massey, PT, DPT, and participation in any instructions during or after live or recorded class is at your own risk.
