Nature and Character of God. He's awesome. Scripture focus

Updated: Apr 25, 2024

Nature and Character of God, based on a compilation of scriptures:

The bullet points are my understanding of God’s characters from these scriptures, or information that helps get an understanding of the nature and character of God based on these scriptures.

James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

  • God gives us good and perfect gifts.

  • God does not waver or change. He doesn’t change His mind. He is not dark and light. Just light.

Matthew 5:45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

  • (Remember for seeds to sprout and grow they need soil, sun, and rain. So the rain here is nourishment and good).

  • God gives good gifts, not dependent on our goodness. It’s His goodness that counts. God gives us grace (undeserved favor and so much more).

Romans 2:4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

  • God is full of and overflowing with kindness, tolerance and patience. That’s how he interacts with us.

    • If that is not what we are experiencing or expecting, we are not thinking of God. We are thinking of how the enemy makes us think about God.

  • The kindness and goodness of God is what draws people to repentance.

    • In other words, yes, repentance is needed for salvation, but God doesn’t beat us over the head or guilt us to repent. He loves us, and draws us in with His goodness and kindness. If you think God is hitting you over the head, you are attributing something worldly to God.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

  • God isn’t delaying in His second coming to punish us. He wants everyone to have a chance to be saved.

  • God’s will is that everyone is saved, that doesn’t mean that all will be, but that is His will.

    • This is just an example of how God’s will isn’t always done on this earth because humans have free will to choose. Just like it’s God will that we are all healed, body, soul, and spirit, whether we experience that or not.

  • God is patient with us!

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

  • We don’t earn our love from God

  • God’s love is unconditional

Romans 10:13 for “whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved”.

  • God will is that everyone be saved (even though all are not)

  • Salvation isn’t something we earn. It’s a free gift.

  • Saved: sozo, save, heal, preserve, rescue, to make whole. Remember, this is complete salvation.

  • God isn’t a respecter of persons, salvation is available for ALL

1 John 3:1 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are, For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

  • We are God’s children. Truly. Not just His creation, His actual beloved children once we choose to call Jesus Lord and savior.

  • We are part of God’s blood line now. Washed clean by the blood of Jesus.

  • We are absolutely beloved, unconditionally

Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

  • God wants to give us those good and perfect gifts.

  • He has already said yes, we just have to receive (take hold of what’s given to us)

  • He is waiting to open doors and give us what we need, and respond to us.

2 Peter 1:3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

  • God has already given us what we need. We are not waiting on God in the worldly sense.

    • In the Old Testament, the word wait was used, to say wait on God, but it was an active word; intertwine yourself with God, look to God, etc. In the New Testament, it was used to tell people to wait for the Holy Spirit, at Pentecost. Then, after that, wait on God wasn’t used anymore. Instead it said go, do, make disciples, etc. Because it’s already finished and done. Jesus has paid the price for all sin for all time, we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus, and we have everything we need through God’s generous provision… if only we take hold of that (receive).

Romans 8:37-39 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • We are loved, and God gave us the power of the Holy Spirit to be an overwhelming conqueror.

  • In other words, He loves us enough to share His Spirit, and power, and authority and victory with us!

  • God loves us so much, that nothing can separate us from that love. That’s a big love.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

  • All the love that we experience and share with others is from God.

  • God is love

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  • God is faithful

  • God is righteous

  • God is forever forgiving

  • God cleanses us, and shares His righteousness with us!

James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone

  • God does not tempt us.

  • God rescues us from temptation.

I have a YouTube video (audio) with readings of these recordings (in NKJV, whereas written is NASB). The audio has each scripture read through, and then read through with pauses for repeat or reflection, and then read in the first person (except James 1:13, added that on later, so it’s not in the recording.

Scripture taken from the New American Standard Bible, Copyright 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995, by the Lockman Foundation. Used by permission.

Scriptures compiled by Curry Blake, for Killing Sacred Cows Manual, John G. Lake Ministries (I added verses 38 and 39 from Romans 8). I also added James 1:13, and this does not show up in my YouTube recording.
